Introducing the BComm Department of HELP University College

It’s never easy to walk into brand new surroundings, whether it’s kindergarden, primary school, secondary school, or university. The general rule of thumb is this: If you’re lucky, you’ll come into this next phase of life with friends, or at the very least, acquaintances from your previous schooling institutions. If, however, you lack the good fortune, you will find yourself attending your first orientation week day feeling something that is not unlike an uncomfortable thudding in your throat.

This, however, does not last—especially not in HELP University College.

Here, at the BComm department of HELP University College, you can expect, even on your very first day, friendly and outspoken seniors who will help (hah, HELP!) and guide you. Ready your walking shoes, because they’ll lead you around campus, teaching you the ins and outs of ‘not getting lost’. They’ll introduce you to your future lecturers, and show you potential classrooms, as well as the yummiest hotspots to spend your lunch hours. As far as your campus map is concerned, you’re all set.

Classes, however, are a whole different ball-game. As you will likely have discovered from your research on HELP’s Communications program, there are three different branches of communications disciplines that are offered here: Media Studies, Public Relations, and Marketing Communications. There is also a wealth of information on the field of Mass Communications in general, to be found in HELP’s official website.

As far as extra-curricular activities go, the BComm department is irrevocably linked to the IPRMSA, as well as the MMS: respectively, the Institute of Public Relations Malaysia in HELP, and the Multimedia Society. Both societies are constantly on the move, holding fun events for all to attend. It was only recently that the IPRMSA held HELP’s very own Runway 101, a modeling competition for all those who wish to see their modeling dreams come true. Coming up soon is the MMS’s very own Halloween Massacre Night 2, a continuation of last year’s highly successful Halloween Massacre Night!

If you find yourself at the end of your wits with a problem (that of course, pertains to the BComm department!), run to our student council president, Grace Wong! Although the student council jobs rotate at intervals, she is your current go-to girl, and will listen to you with patience and kindness. Other things will be learnt as you progress in your life at HELP, but one thing is for certain: there is never a dull moment in the BComm department, nor will you ever find friendlier folks.
