Car Park in HELP

Alternative car park in Help

With the increasing number of students in HELP University College, the car park area has become a major concern of students in the campus. Most of the students who travel by cars tend to park their vehicles at the main campus situated along Jalan Johar. However, little known to most students, there are alternative car parks available to them.

Main Block Campus

The most affordable area car park in HELP is undoubtedly the car park situated at the main block campus. It is an open-air car park which is under the security control by HELP administration. Since it is under HELP’s management, students are entitled for a special discount on the parking rate. The original parking rate is supposedly RM3 per hour and RM 2 for every subsequent hour. However, students get to enjoy a special rate – RM3 per entry, with the condition of them presenting their student ID card.

Since it’s the cheapest car park available in the vicinity of HELP, students are advised to come early for the limited car park space, especially in the morning. Students who have class at the other building may also take the shuttle bus service provided by HELP to reach their destination.

The car park in Main Block Campus

Kompleks Perdagangan Damansara(KPD)

Another parking area for students in HELP is situated at the other building, which is the Kompleks Perdagangan Damansara (KPD). It is the alternative car park for students in KPD Block A and E as they can park their vehicles at a place closer to their class. And for those who are rushing for class, or having only one or two classes in a day, they can choose to park here instead of the car park in HELP’s main campus.

It is more time-saving and students can avoid the hustle in catching the shuttle bus. The car park here is also accessible to many restaurants and cafes around the building, such as the canteen across the road at UOA, Rotiman café and Chillax café at Wisma E&C.

Besides that, students also have another alternative of car park spaces that is located beside KPD at Jalan Gelenggang. The parking rate for this car park is RM 4 for first two hours and RM 2.50 for every 1 hour. Although there are limited car park space, but the turnover of cars are fast due to the expensive car park rate.

Wisma HELP

The car park in Wisma HELP is another alternative for students to park their car. Since it’s located at Wisma HELP, this car park is located very near to classes. Therefore, it is convenient and saves up a lot of time for students who attend classes in KPD and Wisma HELP.

Hence, Students who park their car here can attend classes directly without waiting for the shuttle bus. However convenience comes with a price as the parking rate here is RM 3 per hour.

It's Nearing Midnight and Something Evil's Lurking in the Dark

It’s the last day of October again! Halloween this year was fun in so many ways and amazing in so many aspects, but I think I’m all game for kicking off my shoes and putting up my feet now, to return it all in trade of a steaming mug of hot chocolate and a foot massage; I’ve seen enough bloodied people, ghastly ghosts and the resurrected dead to last me all the way till next year.

Don't get me wrong, I had a blast! After all, it was a party thrown by the infamous Department of Communications of HELP University College which I attended; you can bet it's gonna be off the hook!

Halloween Massacre Night 2 (the second because the first one held last year was such a blast I reckon the organizers didn’t see the need to come up something new) rocked from start to finish. Almost 150 people turned up, with close to 100 tickets already sold a whole week prior to the event. Bookings had to be made in advance I heard, because tickets were being snatched up like free chocolate pretzels and all-you-can-eat strawberry twizzlers. And you bet a hell lot of different characters came out to play that night; funny ones, sexy ones, weird ones, terrifying ones – you name it, we’ve got it!

One Angel of Death, one Playboy Bunny, one Granny, one Cleopatra. Check.

One Left 4 Dead Hunter, one She-Devil, one Jason Vorhees of Friday the Thirteenth. Check.

One Joker, one Mime, one Incredible Hulk. Check.

One Stephen King’s It, some Gas Masked Guy, some other weird Eyeball-Popping-Out-Of-Sockets Guy. Check.

One Japanese Lolita, one Nurse, one Victorian Lady. Check.

Oooo, we also had a Saudi Arabian Syeikh!!

And the inevitable Angels… appropriately manning the registration counter hahaha.

The hightlight of the night was the Haunted House mandatory in all Halloween parties. This year, it featured the thirteen ghosts from the movie of the same title. The queue that grew from waiting for it was a living testimony to how scary it was – it stretched and wound down the length of the college corridor a crazy two hours long! But people waiting for their turn were kept well entertained by beatboxing performances, songs on the acoustic guitar by a two duo band, many games that left the crowd cringing, grimacing and shifting in their seats in discomfort, as well as an appearance by the King of Pop himself, Michael Jackson. He rose from the dead with all his other undead that night, thrilling the crowd with a few dance numbers that were synonymous with the mere mention of his name.

As expected, the event ended much later than the estimated time stated on the posters and flyers, but hey, since when has any party that’s off the hook and worth attending ever end on time?

The Scariest Costume Award of the night went to The Hunter from the multi-player online game, Left4Dead. It was no competition really, given how much effort that could clearly be seen put into his ensemble. Not only was his get-up immaculate, he was in character all night! It clearly required a whole lot of work and determination to stalk and pounce on people all evening long. He must want the award really badly!

The rewards of his hardwork paid off sweet and juicy when it made him RM200 richer in cold hard cash, thanks to our sponsors, 100Plus Revive.

No one wanted to leave on account of how much fun everyone was having, and each and every person wanted second helpings of everything! I don’t blame them. We laughed, we ate, we took pictures. We had the time of our lives trying to guess what each other were supposed to be, laughing at our respective silliness when we guessed wrong and cheering when we got it right. Here’s a big HURRAH!! from me to the organizers of this very successful event. Everyone had clearly worked very hard to make all this possible and very efficiently to have it happen so magnificently.

Happy Halloween all! Don’t get too sick from either candy or alcohol or both! ;]

Party safe and party hard!

Lunch-time confusion no more!

Lunch time? Wondering where to go for your lunch? Sick of having the same meal every day? Here are some helpful tips for all the handsome and pretties who plan to do their Bachelor of Communication at HELP University College. Don’t worry! There is abundance of choices which are just few steps away from HELP campus.

Chillax

If you are a western food lover, Chillax is the must-go café around HELP. What else to ask for other than having a great meal under comfortable and romantic environment? Well, the laughing and talking noises of students are inevitable. But this is the lively atmosphere of how a college should be, right? OK, back to the food in Chillax. The food there varies from American breakfast to chicken chop, roasted chicken with mashed potatoes, fish & chips and varieties of sandwiches, you name it! I bet you have no more complaints of “what to eat today”, which we usually do. Lol.

Chicken chop

Roasted chicken with mashed potatoes

Well, we always have the perception that western foods are bloody expensive. But, here at Chillax, they are going to prove you wrong. The main course costs only about RM 10.00. Besides this, we couldn’t be happier that there is no additional charge for government and service tax. Hooray!!

Speaking of the ambience in Chillax, the comfy couch in the café is definitely an ideal attraction of the café for girls who would like to spend their interval between classes to have some girls’ talk there. Not only girls, it is also a hot dating spot for loving couples. Even if you visit the café alone, the magazines such as “CLEO” and “Seventeen” are available for you to fully utilize your time while waiting for your serving. If you are looking for an air-conditioned and cozy place to complete your assignments and fill your stomach at the same time, Chillax is definitely an “A-list” café. It is located strategically (next to Wisma HELP) with less than 5 minutes walking distance, is uber convenient even for ladies in their heels!

Subway

Another strongly recommended eating place is the famous Subway. It is not exaggerated if were to say Subway is one of the most famous eating places around HELP. Healthy, yummy, affordable, clean, quick, served hot and benefits aplenty.

The breakfast set comes with a bread of your choice and a cup of hot drinks at only RM6.30. It’s cheap and worth it. With such a good deal, the shop is always packed with students. So make sure you are one of the early-birds because the seats are limited. Otherwise take-away will be the only resort.

Rotiman Bakery

Having back-to-back classes is a torment. The worst part is when you are languished in starvation! No one can understand this better than we do. OK, now we are going to tell you the solution. Taa dah! Our favorite Rotiman. It is fast and convenient. You can just grab and go! Oops! Sorry, make sure you pay first before you go. Haha..

The bakeries are guaranteed fresh and tasty.

You can always see students at Rotiman during college hours

UOA Food Court

Local food as the likes of chicken rice, mixed rice, pan mee, etc. are what you can easily found in UOA Food Court, which is just opposite of KPD A. No worries if you have only RM5 in your pocket. You still can still enjoy good food at reasonable and affordable price and the food there come with large portion as well!

If you are a vegetarian, the vegetarian economic rice at UOA Food Court is certainly your most suitable option. The owner of this vegetarian food stall is very friendly. She welcomes every of her customer with a wide smile on her face. Trust me, the food is tasty.

Who says it’s a mission impossible to have home-cooked food even if you are not at home? At UOA food court, you can easily spot the mixed rice corner, they offer a variety of delicious food, which is even comparable to your mother’s cooking. From curry chicken to belacan kangkung, you may have to spend some time to pick your favorites out of all the available dishes.

Even having a short lunch break is no longer a worry because food such as chicken rice and sandwiches which require only short serving period are also available for grab in UOA Food Court.

Jom Makan

Make a right turn when you are in Wisma UOA, then you will see Jom Makan. Jom Makan is an eatery that offers set meals. The food itself, drinks and fruits all come in a set at below RM10. Let’s take a look at the menu:

Some of the set meals

What is worth to be mentioned is the breakfast set. It is guaranteed to make your money’s worth.

Nasi lemak set + Milo ice = RM5.90

Fried kuey tiao + hot tea = RM4.90

Tell me where else can you get such a good deal? It’s only at the eatery around HELP!

Wisma HELP’s Canteen

This is a hot spot for every student in HELP. Breakfast, lunch, brunch, hi-tea or whatever you name it. This place is forever packed with students. Why? Because it is just situated right at the Ground floor of Wisma HELP, whereby students can just grab the food and go for class.

The fried chicken sandwiches are very delicious and you can’t find a reason to miss that out! Besides the sandwiches, you can also fill your stomach with other choices of food, such as fried mee, fishballs etc.

Runway 101 Season 2

Runway 101(some people claimed it's the biggest event in HELP University College, no joke) is back yet again!

Organised by the IPRMSA club from the Communication Department in HELP University College, Runway 101 Season 2 is even bigger and better than ever.

Held at the Bukit Damansara Community Hall, this event is nothing but full of glitz and glamour with everyone dressing up to their nines.

Well they should be as this event comes complete with a panel of celebrity judges. They have:

  • Andrew Tan- CEO of AndrewsModels
  • Fashion designer Amir Luqman (who wore the highest pair of heels on that night, putting every female on that night to shame)
  • Producer, director and actor Hans Isaac (every sane girl in the hall was going gaga over him. tsk tsk tsk...)
  • Andrea Fonseka- National Director of Miss Universe Malaysia
The organising chairperson, Dennis Khor with the panel of judges.

The host of Runway 101 last year, Shannon Goh also returns this year, entertaining the guests with her usual charming and witty ways.

After the models did two rounds on the runway, drawing oohs and aahs and tons of applause from the audience, it was the moment everyone was waiting for: the results.

We have Melanie Teo winning the Audience's Favourite.

Mikko, who won the Best Photoshoot Model.

and the winner of Runway 101 Season 2, Symren Kaur.

With the announcement of the winners being made, that marks the end to the glitzy event.

But that's not the end yet. I'm sure everyone was screaming "WE WANT MORE! WE WANT MORE! WE WANT MORE!" in their heads even after the event has ended.

Hear that IPRMSA? We want Runway 101 Season 3!
